Thiruvananthapuram, Nov 3: Shameer Babu, an award-winning
animation filmmaker, will make the signature film for the upcoming 20th edition
of the International Film Festival of Kerala (IFFK).
The concept
mooted by Babu received appreciation by an august jury comprising renowned
cinematographers Shri Ramachandra Babu and Shri Sunny Joseph, noted director Shri
G.S Vijayan and Kerala State Chalacitra Academy (KSCA) chairman Shri T. Rajeevnath.
Beating
out some 25 entries received for the coveted assignment, the winning submission,
being made under the banner of Moving Kraft animation studio, will feature the
play of light and shadow through the five elements as its theme.
Babu,
who hails from Chala in Kannur district, will receive an official citation,
along with a cash prize of Rs 25000, at the IFFK 2015’s inaugural ceremony on
December 4 at Nishagandhi auditorium.
With 15
years of experience in the television and film fields, Babu has worked for
Pogo, Cartoon Network and Doordharshan. In 2012, he was awarded an Adoor Bhasi
Television award and in 2014 received a Television programme promotion council
award for his contribution to the television industry.
Last
month, the KSCA had invited submissions of novel concepts, scripts and
storyboards with 20-second run-times for the contest. The deadline for
submission was October 26.
The
contest was part of an ongoing KSCA initiative to search for and promote young
talents, fresh ideas, innovative storytelling and approaches to filmmaking from
the wider public.
IFFK
2015, Kerala’s premier film festival, will run from December 4 -11.
