IFFK at 20: ‘Children of Heaven’ to be screened next at Manaveeyam

The Kerala State Chalachitra Academy (KSCA), in association with the Manaveeyam Theruvorakootam collective, will screen the Iranian Classic, Children of Heaven, at Manaveeyam Veedhi today.
The viewing, which will have Malayalam subtitles, will begin at 6.30 pm.
A visual masterpiece of renowned director Majid Majidi, the film depicts the story of two siblings Ali and Zahra and the charm in their small world amidst a real world of struggles and deprivation. ‘
Released in 1997, ‘Children of Heaven’ encompasses a sense of lifestyle and customs of sub urban Iran and its underprivileged people.
The film was nominated for the Academy Award in the category of ‘Best Foreign Language Film’ the very next year, but eventually lost to Italian movie ‘Life is Beautiful’.
The popularity of ‘Children of Heaven’, a family drama, among film critics and movie lovers is evident from the fact that ‘it was screened in almost all major film festivals in Europe, South America and Asia during 1999-2001.

It will be the fifth movie to be screened at Manaveeyam, a weekly pre-event run-up to the 20th IFFK.
